A Photographic study of pain
By Neil Strassberg
Two minutes to black is the time it takes for exposed photographic paper to reach absolute black in the developer...a metaphor for the human condition when dealing with grief, anxiety and depression. This study is an exploration of reflections in surrealism, pain, and self expression. It is the result of the human soul reflecting upon itself, and the common pain shared by many during deep introspection.
The exact meaning of this work for the artist is of relative unimportance, as well as the specific process involved in creating it. What is of significance...is the self exploratory emotions and feelings that this study may awaken in you, the viewer. The work is meant to be what you glean from it, a release from boundaries of reality, to be recreated in the individual mind.
Artist's note - Two Minutes to Black is a purely photographic process, done solely in the shooting.
